There all kinds of people who stand on the street and try to get people to give to their charity. I always stop if I have time because A. I feel guilty not stopping and B. I know that I won´t be able to help them out because I´m only here temporarily.
Today I ran into one of these people and of course, I stopped, took my headphones out and had a conversation even though I just wanted to go grocery shopping. The guy turned out to be really cool and we were talking about his job and how he loves it and how I thought ‘Yuck.. I could NEVER do this job’
After chatting for a few minutes about our situations, I left him to do his job and I went to Aldi. On the way into the shopping area, there was this table set up and two girls sitting there called me over. They were collecting donations for Australian Paralympic athletes so they could go to England this summer for the Olympics. I definitely would have felt like an ass if I didn’t donate (and the guy I had been talking to previously was so nice, that I felt a bit inspired), so of course, I did. 20$. IM SUCH A SUCKER.
For $20 in donations, I received two pins and 2 cards with scratch off instant win prizes and also a chance to win bigger prizes online. I stuffed them into my bag, and went to buy some food (priorities)… Then on my way out of the store, I decided to see if I had “instantly” won anything. I scratched off the first card and it said you suck.. then I scratched off the next card and I had won $25….
Normally I would have been like COOL!!! I WON!! but instead I was thinking more about how I actually just made $5 off of a charity for disabled athletes.
Its the thought that counts, right?
