or as they call them here, flatmate or housemate.
We have been searching for a new person to move into the front room of our house for at least 2 weeks now. The Aussie guy living there moved out and we haven´t had any word from him at all (weird.. ) so we needed to find a replacement asap to pay the rent etc.
Now we´re not just looking for anyone, we don´t want a dud roommate, but I think so far we´ve been too picky. We´ve interviewed like 20 people and none of them have worked out… SO ANNOYING. There have been some that we absolutely loved but they didn´t love the house.
Why didn´t they love the house? I dunno.. Maybe because its a million years old and a sh*t hole. Maybe because the shower curtain is all black and somewhat moldy, maybe its because the bathtub is discolored, maybe its because the kitchen floor is full of crumbs and there are dishes in the sink. More likely because the bathroom is outside.. but that´s neither here nor there.
We thought SOMEONE might take it, even in its current state, but I should have known better because I´ve watched my fair share of real estate shows on TLC and Bravo and I know that you need to sell the property by making it look as nice as possible. (Kinda obvious right?)
Well, I took it into my own hands and cleaned the house from literally top to bottom. Swept everywhere, was on my hands and knees scrubbing the bathtub with a little tiny brush (the only one we had), cleaned the whole kitchen etc.
Today, in my productive zombie state, I went to the store and bought a new shower curtain (in real estate beige), to at least make it look like the rest of the bathroom is nice.. A moldy shower curtain is suuuuch an eyesore, not to mention incredibly disgusting to shower next to.
I´m contemplating buying some plants to put on the balcony and in the living room to make it a little more like a home. If we don´t find someone soon, we will be paying rent on an empty room and I don´t wanna do that at ALL.
